Day 30: My Final Log

It's OVER! YAAAAY!

I mean.... I learned a lot. Far more than what I learned in December. I have drawn some of my best and worst comics this month and I will probably go further with some of them.

At some point in the next few days I'll put all the comics for viewing on my main site. Until then, I had a great time writing all of these comics, even on the slow days(And still updated the Murderman on time) and will continue to work on these weird comics despite the lack of recognition I get for all this ridiculous, if still minimalist work.

Maybe I'm just ranting now. I'm done.

Day 26: Water

This represents the lack of ideas I have coming up to the end.

Not really, I just didn't have enough time to think or draw anything spectacular. The last few days will be much better than this.

Day 25: Father and Son

Similar to that one of the girl smiling in the rain, but I used a completely different technique.

Day 23: Voldemort's an Idiot

I know it looks like I'm being lazy, but it's a matter of conflict! I wanted to make this comic, without spoiling anything. There's a point in the last book where Voldemort's talking about how great he is and how he knows more than everyone else, yet he's talking about things that have become common use in modern times.

Day 21: Robo

No dialogue.

I had initially planned some, but why take away from the setting with meaningless blah? I also worked hard on the colors, taking reference from such series and films like Tailenders, Getter Robo and Zone of the Enders.

The robot is the same, if slightly altered from this comic

Day 19: I don't even know!

I wanted to do at least one drawn on the computer as apposed to pencil and ink. This one is pretty bad, but I don't care, I love the look of it.

Day 17: Canada

OH CANAADAAAA

I was there once. It is a lovely place. I do NOT throw that praise around for ANYWHERE

Brand New World

My webcomic officially has a proper website

Yes I have a whole new website! Isn’t it nice?

The reason being, I really wanted to have an actual link rather than hellstrom.smackjeeves.com. I could have easily spent some money on Smackjeeves for that luxury and a few others, but quite honestly, I wanted better control over the site and its content and I have no ability in code.

That’s where WordPress came in! I’ve spent the last few days fiddling around with this and figuring out bits and pieces and I am so happy I decided to go for this! I have everything I wanted! The ability to navigate the comic from the homepage(I’ve wanted THAT for years), the ability to sort each little storyline into each little category. The ability to add my comics BEYOND Clockwork, like the 30 Days comics(which at this current moment only has 1 out of the 14 I’ve done so far in it), and my very own ad hosting :’D These are all big things for me.

I have been offered by some people and such about them setting me up with a nice comic site, but I didn’t really want to give anyone any hassle, so I did all this on my own! I feel I still have much to do. I barely just got all the comics up (Not all of them though, you should know. I decided to cut out some of the crap. Around 22 comics are gone) and I still have to do a lot more, which I now won’t get around to until the end of June… I’m barely making all these deadlines because of this (sure I haven’t even finished tomorrows comic yet as I write this) so I should get back to that… and while I’m at it… I’ve gotta cross post this everywhere!

Day 14: A Smile

Day 11: Where is the Abbot?

This was a last minute thing. Yet still some experimenting.

My original plan for today fell through, so I thought I'd do a comic entirely with my brush pen, which I really need practice with(and also find a smaller one)

Day 9: Back in Time

In which time travel is possible.

This guy, is Dr. Edward Grey. The main character of a future Clockwork story (post-Murderman)

:3

And I will never colour something like this again. It looks interesting enough...but it just takes too long.

Day 8: The Demon and the Baby

In which I recycle my idea for a childrens book.

I wanted to write this book a while ago, but could never come up with a pitch... maybe one day. This comic pretty much explains what the book would be about really.

Day 6: Falling

In which this isn't a dream I've actually had.

I wanted to do something without any outlines, so no inking was done. These comics have been quite consistently different. That probably won't last.

Day 5: Meteor

There isn't much story behind this. I got the idea watching Paprika, and I really anted to draw the 3rd last panel.

Saturday, June 4, 2011

Day 4: Fond Memories

In which an old man remembers his youth.

This was based on a film I made 2 years ago. It's one of my favourite films, despite the terrible quality. I'm pretty sure this is also my most artistic comic.

Day 3: You Ruin Things

Not entirely sure what I was getting at here. I wanted to try something more simplistic with a bit of filtering.

Day 1: Captain's Log

The first Comic. In which a terrible captain mistakes his intercom for a personal journal function.

London

I was at the MCM Expo in London over the weekend and wrote this incredibly rough, 13 page account of my time there, featuring illustrations and such. Featuring such artists I met on the trip as John Allison, Luke Pearson, Becky Cloonan and Stephanie Rodriguez .

To any of you guys I reference who read this, I assure you, my work is not as messy as this normally... PROOF  <- that being my most recent work. It's just I wrote and drew all this roughly in pencils and cleaning time was tight since I have a few comics to finish for tomorrow.

Well...Enjoy!

The Thirty Days Project

I shall be taking part in this from tomorrow to the end of June. Anyone following me may remember Project December, well this is the original project I based it on, so why wouldn't I do the original?

Throughout the month I hope to do a different comic each day, with none of them featuring a certain grumpy guy with shark teeth. I will try to explore different ideas and techniques in writing comics, although I'm sure the comics will still blatantly be mine.

Working on full comics instead of simple images will be much more difficult than I feel I'm prepared to do, but Project December was a learning experience and I'm pushing myself to learn even more.
I hope you all continue to follow and support me during this time.

Dan and Misty

The unsung heroes of Clockwork Pandas.

One of my biggest regrets in Clockwork is that I don't flesh out my minor characters as much as Ken. What's worse is... these 2 aren't even supposed to be minor characters. They're 2 of the 3 MAIN characters. At least...they're supposed to be... Dan is the cool, aloof one. Misty is the sassy, intelligent female...and not a love interest for anyone! Just to make that clear. But I feel these personalities have barely any presence overall in my quest to put more characters for Ken to interact with alone...

There was a year long period when Misty never even appeared! So I'm writing chapter 5 of the Murderman for these 2. To show their end of the investigation. To show that Ken isn't as alone as he thought in the whole ordeal and how his decisions do affect his remaining friends.

But then, what if one if them is the Murderman? And what if the other has to die?

I'm totally encouraging speculation.

I guess that's all. Not much to write, I just wanted to express how I feel about these 2 somewhere other than the comments section of the comic.

Horses of the Thunder God

I wrote this for a cartoon, but like all my ideas now it has degenerated to a comic. Hopefully the humour is as effective as if it were animated, referring in large to that final part.

This was also done for Free Comic Book Day! So this comic is free. Not that all of my other comics aren't.

Grumble grumble.

Wait! More backstory! One of the first Thor comics I read was like this. A little more extreme in the art and dramatics department, but it was still.... roughly.... the same... anyway it was from the Ages of Thunder collection written by Matt Fraction.

Superman's Day Off

Yet another watercolor, superhero parody comic. And my first Superman :'D

I should start building a site for these types of comics...

So here's the story... this was initially supposed to be a parody of the last episode of Smallville. Y'know, the teen romance where Superman hangs out with friends in coffee shops? But things change!

Darkseid VS Batman

Batman parody! Schwing! Also more watercolor work...

I'm a cartoonist =D

2001: A Ken Odyssey

Behold the remnants of a comic I will never finish. I had the-now foolish-idea to make another film Parody around a film I had never seen. 2001: A Space Odyssey. I thought it might have good material! And it did. But I lost track of writing while I was watching, no...waiting for the film. I could have easily finished writing the comic and covered the entire film with witty jokes or whatever, but my heart wasn't in it after those long... long shots...

So this is what remains of the comic it was going to be. Enjoy it and the better comic I came up with in my failure.

I am now working on Ken Torino instead.

Dragon Age Comics

I fought 2 more dragons after writing this comic! The results of the conspiracy are explored in the following 2 comics.

I made a lot of these comics! Yeah, I decided to play through the rest of Dragon Age (The DLCs) before the release of DA2 on Friday and needless to say, while I was playing, I had some comic ideas... 5 of them! Janey Mack!

Slosh

This happened, but not to me. However, I put myself in the comic for the sake of it =]

I'm sure this is one of those "had to be there" moments. This was much funnier when it actually happened. Although I suppose that's really the point of these diary comics.

I also knowingly spelled mayonnaise wrong, but didn't want to correct it after writing in the 'o', so I kept it wrong the second time round! YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS.

Bitches be calling aaaall the time!

There won't be a comic on Sunday! I have work to do! Just to get that out of the way.

Well here's an awesome new character! Based on a dude. Some people know him. He's a jerk, as shown in the comic!

I might put him in the main comic now.

Achievement Unlocked: The Tale of Eluart the Hero

I WIN! For a while I didn't think I'd do it, but I did! Project Crazy was a success! I made a 4 and a half minutes animated film in 1 day(around 13 hours to be exact). Heavy on the story, weak on the "animation".

Anyway, why talk about it when you can watch it! Hop to it! It's a fantasy piece about a man and a monster.

Project CRAZY!

I'm about to do something insane.

I am going to make a short animated film in the space of 1 day. Tomorrow. This counts from the time I wake up till I sleep. Some time less than 24 hours.

I think I can do it! But I'm known to be terribly ambitious. Even at the cost of my dignity.

So here's the deal. I had this idea for a film where a monster attacks a village and the 2 survivors hunt the monster down and kill it, so as a way to pitch the idea, and have a little project put to rest, I'll be telling the story of the monsters origin.

I'm in the process of writing it's already become rather impressive. I guess you'll all see what it's about tomorrow, but here's some of the concept work for the return of the monster.

You may notice a pattern with my villains being silhouettes. Sorry, but I love the idea of the enemy being unknown, despite their obvious presence. Cloverfield did it nicely, never showing fully what the monster looked like until literally the last second. I prefer the idea that it's just complete blackness, save for the white holes that are the eyes and mouth, I'll play into that in the origin.
